ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel University women's tennis team opened their season against the Division II Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs at the Sports and Recreation Center. The Mustangs, playing in their third match of the season, defeated the Royals 8-1.

In singles competition, Krista Nauman (Fr., Buffalo, Minn.) was the lone winner as she defeated her counterpart 6-0 and 7-5. Ashley Dohlen (Jr., Morris, Minn.) forced a tiebreaker in her first set, but ultimately lost 7-6 and then 6-4. In doubles, the Royals scored progressively better against the Mustangs, but were unable to emerge victorious in any of the competitions.

The loss drops Bethel to 0-1 overall, while SMSU improves to 1-2 on their season. The Royals are scheduled to play their first conference opponent on Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Lifetime Fitness health club located in Lakeville, Minn., for their next match.
