MANKATO, Minn. - In their first game away from the Robertson Center, the Bethel Royals men's basketball team defeated the Bethany Lutheran Vikings 68-61 Tuesday night. Fresh off the Olive Garden Tip-Off Tournament held at Bethel University, the Royals came out strong, putting up 36 points in the first half to take a 15 point lead into halftime.
The second half proved to be a little more difficult for the Royals as the Vikings weren't about to let the game slip away. Bethany Lutheran outscored Bethel 40-32 in the second half to close the margin. However, their effort would be for naught as the Royals came out on top with the victory.
Three Royals finished the game in double-digit scoring tonight with
Chris Vavra (Sr., Cambridge, Minn.) leading the way with 16 points.
Nate Robertson (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) followed close behind with 15 points, while
Rob Lang (Sr., Johnston, Iowa) added 11 points of his own. Vavra and Lang both added two steals apiece in the game, and Robertson dominated the boards with nine rebounds.
With the win, the Royals now move to 2-1 on the young season. Their next game will take place on Dec. 2, in Collegeville, Minn., where Bethel will open up MIAC play against rival Saint John's.
