ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel Royals extended their winning streak to four games tonight with a 73-60 win over the visiting Macalester Scots, keeping the Scots winless on their season.

The Royals had five players post double digit point figures, including two players with double-doubles. The two teams played a tight game in the first half, and it wasn't until the last two minutes that Bethel really began to pull away. The two teams headed to the locker room at the midway period with the score 35-28 in favor of the Royals.

Bethel came out strong in the second half, leading by as many as 15 before Macalester slowly and steadily fought its way back to trail by just six points with two minutes remaining. However, the leading free throw shooter in the conference, Cory Laugen (Sr., Blaine, Minn.), scored five of his 10 points in those last two minutes by making five of his six shots from the charity stripe.

Nate Robertson (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.- pictured right) was a key contributor in the first half with seven points, eight rebounds, a block, and a steal. He would go on to finish with 10 points and 11 rebounds - his second double-double of the season. Reigning MIAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week, Mike Moberg (Sr., Plymouth, Minn. - pictured below, left), also had a double-double, his third in his last four games and seventh of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The All-MIAC center also had a pair of blocks and a monster dunk to take away any momentum the Scots may have had in the waning minutes of the second half. Chris Vavra (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.) chipped in 10 points off the bench in the effort as well.

The last time the Royals faced the Scots, Tim Madson (Sr., Redwood Falls, Minn.) was held to a season low eight points, and it marked the first time he had been held to less than 10 points in a game since his freshman season. Tonight, he more than made up for it by scoring 22 points on 7-for-16 shooting from the field and 7-for-7 shooting from the free throw line to be the game's leading scorer. Madson has now scored 20 or more points three times in Bethel's last five games.

Macalester was led by Colin Keely with 17 points, followed by Paul Richie with 10.

Statistically, the Scots actually made one more field goal than the Royals and had a better shooting percentage from the floor. However, the Royals made twice as many three-point shots and more than doubled the Scots output at the free throw line.

Bethel's win, paired with an Augsburg loss tonight, puts them in sole possession of second place in the conference standings at 9-4, and gives them a 14-4 season record. Macalester falls to 0-13 in the MIAC and 0-18 overall with the loss. Bethel is scheduled to remain at home for its next game to tip off against Concordia beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
