Box Score
BLAINE, Minn. - After a tough and very physical series against the Concordia Cobbers, the Bethel Royals got little rest before taking the ice against the Lawrence University Vikings today. However, the Royals played sharp against their visitors and took home a 4-1 win.
Bethel broke the scoreless tie at 12:09 into the first period when Tom Menozzi (So., Lakeville, Minn.- pictured below, right) scored his third goal of the season with the help of
Jake Kogler (Fr., Forest Lake, Minn.) and
Mason Swenson (Fr., Eagan, Minn.). Kogler put Bethel up 2-0 less than two minutes into the second period when he fielded a pass from former high school teammate Christian Fogerty (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) and put it in the net. Menozzi was also credited with an assist on the goal, giving him two points in the game.
The score remained the same for almost the next half hour of game time until
(Sr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and
Brad Peterson (Sr., Bloomington, Minn.) got credits for the assists on the goal. Peterson is now just seven points away from reaching the 100-point milestone. Dynan had left the game early in the first period after receiving a hard check into the boards at Bethel's end, but Bethel University athletic trainers attended to him, and he returned to the game in the second period. Today's game also marked the return of starting forward
Chris Fiala (Fr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.), who had been sidelined for the last two games with a leg injury.
Lawrence finally answered with their only goal of the game with less than five minutes remaining. Josh DeSmit scored with the help of Matt Hughes to make the score 3-1 in favor of Bethel. The Vikings then pulled goalie Evan Johnson with just under a minute and a half remaining, but newcomer
Kyler Moje (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn. - pictured right) made them pay for the decision with a wrist shot from center ice that found nothing but net putting the Royals up 4-1 with 34 seconds remaining.
Bethel platooned a pair of goalies in front of the net today.
Aaron Jorgensen (So., Little Falls, Minn.) got his first ever starting nod and played lights out hockey by recording 14 saves in his 32 minutes. Just past the halfway point of the second period,
Patrick Kiely (Jr., Muskegon, Mich. - pictured left)) began tending the goal and finished out the game, making 23 saves in nearly 27 minutes of play.
The win for Bethel snaps Lawrence's winning streak at six games and helps the Royals improve to 8-8-1 on the season. Lawrence falls to 9-8 overall with the decision. The Royals are scheduled to stay put to play their fifth home game in a row, this time against Hamline University who is ranked #14 in the latest USCHO.com national poll. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
