Box Score

BLAINE, Minn. - Through the first 31:26 of today's game, it looked as though the Royals and Cobbers would all but duplicate their performances from the previous night. Both teams skated hard and fast, but then Concordia broke the game open by scoring a trio of goals in the span of just over a minute and a half. When it was all said and done, the Cobbers skated away with a 4-1 victory over the Royals.

Bethel had a goal called off in the second period leaving them scoreless through through the first 51 minutes of the game. However, John Kovacs (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) helped the Royals chip away at their deficit by scoring his third goal of the season with the help of Christian Ostigaard (Jr., Byers, Colo.) and newcomer Kyler Moje (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn.).

Unfortunately, the Cobbers slowed Bethel's third period momentum by tacking on a fourth goal with less than five minutes remaining.

Concordia spread out its offensive attack by getting each of its goals from a different skater. Only Nick Thielen had more than one point with his two assists on the first two goals. The Cobbers came out shooting right away and at game's end had outshot the Royals 50-20. Bethel goalie Aaron Damjanovich (Jr., Remer, Minn.) recorded 38 saves in the first two periods alone, which nearly matched his game total from the night before.

The loss drops Bethel back to 7-8-1 overall and 4-4 in the MIAC. For Concordia, the win is their first in conference play making them 1-5-2 and 3-12-2 overall. The Royals will be at home again next Monday when they are scheduled to face off against Lawrence University beginning at 2 p.m.

NOTE: This game was declared a Bethel win on February 9, 2009, as a result of forfeit by Concordia for use of an ineligible player.
