Adams' two goals lifts Bethel to 2-1 win over Concordia

Eric Adams scored both Bethel goals tonight.
Box Score

BLAINE, Minn. - The Royals needed a pick-me-up tonight, and they got it from Eric Adams (Sr., Litchfield, Minn.), who accounted for both of Bethel's goals in their 2-1 win over the visiting Concordia Cobbers.

Adams lit the lamp just past the halfway mark of the first period with the help of Lukas Jorgensen (Jr., Little Falls, Minn.) to put the Royals up for more than the next half hour of game time. It wasn't until the 1:22 mark of the third period that Concordia was able to put a goal on the scoreboard thanks to some outstanding goaltending by two-time All-MIAC netminder Aaron Damjanovich (Jr., Remer, Minn.).

The Royals took the lead for good at 5:40 into the final period when Adams struck again, this time going coast to coast and going top shelf with the puck after a pair of passes from Chaz Gerads (Fr., Blaine, Minn.) and Chad Herzog (Fr., Champlin, Minn.).

Bethel outshot Concordia 17-8 in the first 20 minutes, but the Cobbers came back with a vengeance in the second and third periods, outshooting the Royals 32-9. Fortuntately for the Royals, Damjanovich was in top form tonight and thwarted 39 of the Cobbers' 40 shots.

The game hit a rough patch in the middle of the second period as both teams had three players in the penalty box all at the same time. A bit of a melee

ensued after Damjanovich made one of his brilliant saves resulting in two players from each squad having to be spectators for two minutes at a time. Later on in the third period, a Concordia player received a 10-minute misconduct for arguing a high-sticking call in the Bethel zone, negating the skater advantage they had at the time, which was with less than a minute and a half remaining.

Bethel's win pulls them back to 7-7-1 overall and 4-3 in conference play, while Concordia drops to 2-12-2 overall and 0-5-2 in the MIAC. The two teams are scheduled to face off against each other tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. at Bethel University Arena to complete the season series.
