Blanchard graduated from Decorah High School in 2011, where she ran cross country and played soccer and basketball. Emma was a first-team 2A all-state selection as a senior in soccer. She was part of a cross-country state championship team in 2007 along with a 4th place finish in 2008 and state runners-up in 2009 and 2010. She was a 4-time Northeast Iowa All-Conference performer individually and all-district as a senior. Her basketball team reached the district finals in her senior season. Blanchard's parents are David and DeAnne Blanchard, and she is currently majoring in Social Work.
