Joe Barrer

Joe Barrer enters his second year at Bethel in the newly formed, full-time position of Assistant Basketball Coach and Assistant Strength Coach.

"We are fortunate to bring Joe Barrer into our program," commented Coach Novak. "His wealth of knowledge and ability to communicate will make an immediate impact. Additionally, his ability to teach and process the game will enhance our players ability to grow on and off the court."

AT BETHEL

• Helped the Royals to an 18-9 overall record in 2015-16 and an appearance in the semi-finals of the MIAC Tournament
• Helped two Royals earn All-Conference honors as well as one All-Defensive Team selection, one All-Freshman Team pick and one All-Conference Honorable Mention award 


BEFORE BETHEL
• Spent one season as the top assistant at NCAA DII Truman State, helping the Bulldogs to a 20-10 record
• Amassed a career record of 91-34 as the head coach at Assumption High School in Davenport, Iowa
• Reached three Iowa Class 3A state tournaments at Assumption
• Named Mississippi Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2011-12 after his team compiled a 16-0 mark against league opponents

• Head Basketball Coach at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
• Assistant coach at Brother Rice High School in Chicago
• Spent three years as a graduate assistant and Director of Basketball Operations at NCAA DI George Mason (Va.) University
• Under head coach Jim Larranaga, helped lead George Mason to a school record 27 wins, a CAA championship and a trip to the NCAA Final Four in 2005-06

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING EXPERIENCE
• Assists with the overall strength and conditioning of Royals student-athletes in the brand new Bethel University Wellness Center
• Holds a Master's degree in Fitness and Health Promotion from George Mason University and a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Saint Ambrose (Iowa) University


PLAYING CAREER
• Four-year member of the men's basketball team at Saint Ambrose University
• Helped lead the program to the MCC championship in 2000, 2002, and 2003
• SAU advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in 2000 and 2003
