Cortez is a 2014 graduate from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota where he participated in football and track.  In football, Cortez was All-Conference.  He was a five-time letterwinner in track and field, Iron Man Award recipient as well as a team captain.  He was involved in Break Dance Club, Parkour Club, voted Spanish Student of The Year, and part of the Senior Leadership Team.  Son of Chantal and Ron Walters, Cortez is majoring in Psychology and minoring in Theology.  Cortez would to be a police officer in the future.
