Sam is a 2017 graduate from Elk River, MN, where as a captain, he let their team to its 2016 5A State Championship. Sam was selected as AP All-State, Vikings All-State, All-Metro Utility Player, Finalist for Mr. Football, and awarded Offensive MVP in the 2016 MN All-Star game. Sam also earned All-State honors in wrestling at Elk River High School. He is the son of Jeff and Kelly Gibas; at Bethel, Sam is a Business major.
