SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Bethel University baseball team split a pair of road games at Macalester on Wednesday as they fell 6-5 in game one, and cruised to an 18-4 (8 Innings) win in game two.
The Royals move to 17-6, 7-1 MIAC, while the Scots end the day with a 16-9, 6-2 MIAC record.
Macalester 6, Bethel 5 (Game One)
The Royals took a 4-0 lead through 2.5 innings before the Scots responded with four-run third inning, and a two-run seventh that culminated in Tristan Lander's two-out, walk off RBI double that sealed them a 6-5 victory.
Bethel finished with nine hits. Drew Girtz was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored, and one walk. Seth Nelson's 2-for-3 outing consisted of one double, two runs scored, and one walk. Also recording doubles for the Royals were Hayden Sperbeck and Oran Hinkle.
Bethel's pitching staff held Macalester to seven hits. Starting pitcher Mark Anderson surrendered three hits, four runs, two walks, and notched two strikeouts over 5.0 innings before Ted Hohn allowed four hits and two runs over the final 1.2 innings.
Bethel 18, Macalester 4 (8 Innings) (Game Two)
The Scots took 3-0 lead in the first inning before the Royals prevailed with a six-run third inning, and a seven-run fifth gave them more than enough cushion in an 18-4 victory. The hits category also resulted in an 18-4 advantage for Bethel.
Finishing a perfect 5-for-5 was Hayden Sperbeck, who had a double, three runs scored, and three RBI.
Sam Abbas's 2-for-4 performance included his eighth home run of the season, three runs scored, and three RBI. Going 3-for-4 with one double, two RBI, one run scored, and one walk was Seth Nelson.
Tyler Allshouse went 3-for-4 with one triple, four runs scored, two RBI, and one walk. Also hitting a triple was Ben Trucke, who was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Chris Cannon was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, and three walks.
Aiden Eckert surrendered three hits, one run, and notched four strikeouts over 4.0 innings of work to secure the pitching win. Roman Lachenmayer, Brandon Witter, and Alex Call also pitched for the Royals.
Bethel will travel to Gustavus Adolphus (DH) on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m.
