ST. PETER, MINN.—The Bethel University baseball team swept Gustavus Adolphus (DH) on the road by scores of 7-5 and 18-11.
The Royals improve to 19-6, 9-1 MIAC, while the Gusties fall to 11-13, 4-6 MIAC.
Bethel 7, Gustavus 5 (Game One)
A 7-0 lead through two innings was enough cushion for the Royals in their 7-5 victory.
The Bethel pitching staff held the Gusties to just five hits. Drew Girtz surrendered three hits, three runs, two walks, and notched seven strikeouts over the first 4.0 innings, which secured him the winning decision. Cavan Banks prevailed with a three-inning save as he allowed two hits, two runs, three walks, and tallied one strikeout.
The Royals finished with 11 hits across eight starters. Among them was Girtz, who finished 3-for-4 with one double, and one run scored. Seth Nelson was 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run scored, and one RBI. Hayden Bradford added a two-run double in the first inning, while Sam Abbas accomplished that same feat in the second inning.
Bethel 18, Gustavus 11 (Game Two)
The Royals led from start-to-finish in a game that saw them outhit Gustavus 13-12.Â
Both teams combined to use 14 pitchers, six of them were Royals. Starting pitcher Jackson Hunter got the pitching start. He surrendered nine hits, four runs, one walk, and notched six strikeouts. Ted Hohn, who faced one batter, was credited with a four-pitch save.
The Royals' offense drew a whopping 17 walks in the game, while both teams combined for 25.
Hayden Bradford finished 4-for-6 with two doubles, two runs scored, a hit by pitch, and four RBI. Seth Nelson's 10th home run of the season in the ninth inning highlighted his 3-for-4 performance that included three runs scored, three RBI, and three walks. Chris Cannon's sixth-inning RBI triple highlighted his 1-for-4 day that included two runs scored, one RBI, and three walks. Oran Hinkle went 2-for-6 with one double, one run scored, one RBI, and one walk. Also hitting a double was Carson Christiansen, who was 1-for-2 with one run scored, one RBI, and one walk.
