NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Bethel University baseball team swept St. Olaf (DH) by scores of 2-0 and 12-7 in Northfield, Minnesota on Saturday.
The Royals improve to 26-7, 14-2 MIAC, while the Oles fall to 12-22, 7-9 MIAC.
Bethel 2, St. Olaf 0 (Game One)
Drew Girtz surrendered five hits, two walks, and had eight strikeouts over 5.0 innings of work on the pitching mound for Bethel. Cavan Banks, who earned earned the save, surrendered zero hits and zero runs over the final 2.0 innings.
Both of the Royals runs occurred off bases loaded walks from Oran Hinkle and Chris Cannon in the fifth inning.Â
Bethel finished with four hits in the contest. Sam Abbas finished 1-for-4 with one double.
Bethel 12, St. Olaf 7 (Game Two)
Both teams combined for 25 hits, 15 belonged to the Royals. All nine Bethel starters contributed a hit.Â
Ben Trucke was 3-for-4 with a three-run home run in the sixth inning, an RBI double in the eighth inning, two runs scored, and one walk. Going 3-for-4 with one RBI and one walk was Chris Lavin while Hayden Sperbeck was 2-for-4 with one double, three runs scored, two walks, and one stolen base. Tyler Allshouse finished 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run scored.
Jackson Hunter earned the pitching win. He allowed six hits, five runs (three earned), two walks, and notched four strikeouts over 5.2 innings of work. Jay Krieger, Zach Johnson, and Ted Hohn saw time in relief for the Royals.
Cole Pleimann led St. Olaf at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance that included one home run and one double. Christopher Woodside was 2-for-4 with a home run, one run scored, and one RBI.
The Royals will travel to Concordia (Minn.) (DH) on Tuesday, April 28 for a 1 p.m. start.
