Royals Split With Saints On Senior Day

ARDEN HILLS, MINN.—The Bethel University baseball team scored 14 runs on each end of their home split against St. Scholastica (DH) at Hargis Park on Tuesday, as they won game one 14-3, and lost game two 18-14.

The Royals move to 23-7, 12-2 MIAC, while the Saints end the day 16-14, 6-8 MIAC.

Bethel 14, St. Scholastica 3 (Game One)

Both teams combined for 24 hits in the contest, with 14 belonging to the Royals. 

Chris Lavin was a flawless 3-for-3 with a fourth-inning grand slam, a hit by pitch, six RBI, and one run scored. Also turning in a perfect outing was Ben Trucke, who was 2-for-2 with one double, one sacrifice fly, two runs scored, five RBI, and one walk.

Going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run scored, one hit by pitch, and one RBI was Hayden Sperbeck. Seth Nelson was 1-for-1 with three hit by pitches, and three runs scored. Tyler Allshouse finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, one RBI, and one walk. Rounding out the multi hit Royals was Chris Cannon, whose 2-for-4 performance included two runs scored.

Bethel starting pitcher Mark Anderson allowed six hits, one run, two walks, and notched three strikeouts over 5.0 innings of work before Tanner Nordrum, Will MacCloud, and Alex Call saw time in relief.

Tommy Crupi paced St. Scholastica at the plate with a 2-for-3 outing that included one home run, one double, one run scored, and one RBI.

St. Scholastica 18, Bethel 14 (Game Two)

Bethel accounted for 11 of the game's 28 hits, while St. Scholastica hit six of the game's seven home runs.

Andrew Beffel went 3-for-3 with three home runs, four runs scored, four RBI, and one walk for the Saints. That included his solo home run in the ninth inning that gave St. Scholastica a 14-13 lead, and a two-run home run in the 10th inning that made the score 18-14. That came after Tommy Crupi's two-run home run that put the Saints in front for good at 16-14 in the 10th inning.

Hayden Sperbeck was 2-for-5 with a solo home run in the ninth inning, an RBI double in the eighth inning, two runs scored, one sacrifice fly, and three RBI. Going 3-for-5 with one double, four RBI, one run scored, and one hit by pitch was Seth Nelson. Chris Cannon, who was hit by a pitch twice, scored three runs.

Finishing 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored was Tyler Allshouse, while Chris Lavin was 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored. 

Sam Abbas, who scored four runs, reached base four times with three walks and one hit by pitch.

Both teams combined for 12 pitchers used in the contest. Five of them were Royals as Ted Hohn, Jay Krieger, Cavan Banks, Jackson Hunter, and Drew Girtz combined for 10 strikeouts in the contest. 

Bethel will resume a suspended game against Crown at Hargis Park tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22 at 4 p.m.
