SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Bethel University softball team split at Macalester (DH) on Monday as they lost game one 7-4, and won game two 9-5.
The Royals move to 10-20, 5-7 MIAC, while the Scots end the day 19-10, 10-1 MIAC.
Macalester 7, Bethel 4 (Game One)
Bethel finished with seven hits. Two of them came from Sidney Bartels, who was 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Molly Closser went 1-for-3 with one double and one run scored. Going 1-for-3 with one run scored, and a fifth-inning sacrifice fly that scored Closser to narrow Bethel's deficit to 3-2.
Mandalyn Franks's 1-for-4 performance was highlighted by her two-run single in the fifth inning that gave Bethel their first lead of the game at 4-3, as well as a stolen base.
Dominique Walicke and Mary Hajduk combined to give up nine hits, seven runs, four walks, and notch five strikeouts in the pitching circle for the Royals.
Martha Miller surrendered seven hits, four runs, and had three strikeouts in the complete-game pitching victory for Macalester. Dylan Tapia paced the Scots at the plate with a two-run double.
Bethel 9, Macalester 5 (Game Two)
Bethel led from start-to-finish in a game that saw them out hit Macalester 12-7.
Three of those hits came from Abby Otterness, who finished 3-for-4 with one double, two runs scored, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Lucie Voigt and Camryn Thurow, who scored one run, each went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Royals. Greta Stanek's seventh-inning double made up her 1-for-4 outing along with one run scored and one stolen base. Going 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two stolen bases was Julia Helget.
Brianna Tix allowed seven hits, five runs, four walks, and notched six strikeouts in a complete-game pitching win for Bethel.Â
Safiya Butler and Martha Miller each had two hits and two runs scored at the plate for Macalester.
