Knights Take Two From Royals

NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Bethel University softball team fell to Carleton (DH) by scores of 3-2 (8 Innings) and 7-5 in Northfield, Minnesota on Wednesday.

The Royals fall to 9-19, 4-6 MIAC, while the Knights improve to 12-14, 2-8 MIAC.

Carleton 3, Bethel 2 (8 Innings) (Game One)

The Knights dug themselves out of a 2-0 deficit with three unanswered runs thanks to Emily Vogel's two-run double in the sixth inning that tied the game 2-2, and walk off RBI double in the eighth inning that secured them a 3-2 victory.

The Royals accumulated four hits. Ellie Baker finished 1-for-2 with one double while Camryn Thurow, Sidney Bartels, and Lucie Voigt also contributed hits for Bethel. 

Emily Vogel went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Jade Thach finished 2-for-4 with two doubles. Gloria Hronek, who was 1-for-3, scored the game tying, and winning runs off both of Vogel's doubles. They engineered a Knights offense that accumulated nine hits.

Bethel pitcher Dominique Walicke allowed nine hits, three runs (two earned), three walks, and notched three strikeouts in a complete-game effort. Carleton pitcher Rachel Block accumulated eight strikeouts in the complete-game victory.

Carleton 7, Bethel 5 (Game Two)

Both teams combined for 23 hits, 13 belonged to Bethel. 

Mandalyn Franks finished 3-for-5 with one double, while Lucie Voigt was 3-for-4 with one run scored, and two stolen bases. Drawing the team's lone walk was Camryn Thurow, who went 2-for-4 with one run scored and one stolen base while Abby Otterness rounded out the multi-hit Royals with a 2-for-3 performance. Sidney Bartel's 1-for-4 outing consisted of an RBI double. 

The Royals pitching staff held Carleton to just one hit for extra bases. Brianna Tix tossed the first 3.1 innings, where she gave up seven hits, six runs (zero earned), one walk, and notched one strikeout. Mary Hajduk gave up three hits, one run, and had one strikeout over the final 2.2 innings.

The Royals will host Augsburg (DH) for senior day on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m.
