ARDEN HILLS, MINN.—The Bethel University baseball team pushed their win streak to seven games following a 3-2 (11 Innings) and 6-1 sweep over Hamline (DH) in their 2026 home opener at Hargis Park on Sunday.
The Royals move to 12-4, 2-0 MIAC, while the Pipers fall to 8-11, 0-2 MIAC.
Bethel 3, Hamline 2 (11 Innings) (Game One)
Coming up with two hits apiece were Seth Nelson and Drew Girtz. Nelson, who contributed a fifth-inning sacrifice fly that made the score 2-2 courtesy of Hayden Sperbeck, finished 2-for-4 with one double.Â
Drew Girtz's 2-for-5 outing consisted of a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the 11th inning that sent home Carson Christiansen and secured Bethel a 3-2 victory. Girtz's offensive performance also included a walk. He also got the pitching start for Bethel as he allowed seven hits, two runs (one earned), and two walks while he recorded six strikeouts over 5.0 innings. Cavan Banks tossed the next 3.0 innings in relief, where he surrendered two hits and tallied five strikeouts before Jay Krieger allowed just two hits over the final 3.0 innings to secure the winning decision.
Bethel finished the contest with six hits compared to the Hamline's 11. Sperbeck and Christianson also recorded hits for the Royals while Ben Trucke and Oran Hinkle each drew two walks.
Bethel 6, Hamline 1 (Game Two)
The Royals dug themselves out of a 1-0 first-inning deficit with six unanswered runs, which secured them a 6-1 victory in a game that was a snappy one hour and 31 minutes.
Jackson Hunter went the distance on the pitching rubber for Bethel as he tallied four strikeouts and allowed five hits, one run, and one walk over 7.0 innings. The Royals offense provided Hunter with seven hits.
Oran Hinkle's 2-for-3 outing included a three-run home run in the fourth inning, and one stolen base. Hitting his second double of the afternoon was Seth Nelson, who finished 1-for-2 with one run scored and one hit by pitch.
Chris Cannon's 1-for-3 outing included a two-run single in the third inning that scored Hinkle and Sam Abbas, who finished with a single and a hit by pitch.
The Royals will travel to Bethany Lutheran for a single game tomorrow, Monday, March 30 at 2 p.m.
