SPRING BREAK RECAP (March 22, 2026): Baseball Concludes 2026 Spring Trip With Victory Over Middlebury

ORLANDO, FLA.—The Bethel University baseball team finished with a 5-4 record in their spring trip following an 8-6 victory over Middlebury in their final game in the Sunshine State on Sunday.  

The Royals improve to 8-4, while the Panthers fall to 6-3.

Bethel came out on top despite the Panthers having a 15-9 advantage in hits. Six of the Panthers' hits were for extra bases, while the Royals mustered three. 

Drew Girtz was 2-for-4 with one double, three runs scored, one walk, and two stolen bases. Also going 2-for-4 with one double, as well as three RBI was Chris Cannon. All over the stat sheet were Oran Hinkle and Hayden Sperbeck. Hinkle was 1-for-4 with one double, three runs scored, two RBI, and one walk while Sperbeck was a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two runs scored, one RBI, and one walk. Girtz, Hinkle, Sperbeck, and Cannon accounted for 8-of-9 Bethel hits on the day. Hayden Bradford, who was 1-for-3 with one walk, had Bethel's remaining hit.

Starter Ted Hohn scattered 10 hits, five runs (four earned), zero walks, and five strikeouts over 5.0 innings to lock the winning decision for the Royals. Roman Lachenmayer prevailed with the four-inning save, allowing five hits, one run, and notching six strikeouts.

Six Panthers recorded multi-hit outings. Middlebury's Sam Gersch hit the game's lone home run in the second inning. Panthers starting pitcher Hank Lloyd notched six strikeouts, allowed three hits, five runs, and walked five batters over 3.2 innings of a losing decision.

The Royals will make the short trek to Northwestern (Minn.) for a single game at Reynolds Field on Tuesday, March 24 at 4 p.m.
