SPRING BREAK RECAP (March 18, 2026): Women's Tennis and Baseball Take Care of Business, Softball Drops Two Games to Southwestern

ARDEN HILLS, MINN.—The Bethel University women's tennis, baseball, and softball teams were in action for their spring break trips on Wednesday, March 18.

BASEBALL

Bethel defeated UMass Dartmouth 13-7 in Orlando, Florida. The Royals improve to 5-3, while the Corsairs fall to 6-9.

Bethel 13, Mass Dartmouth 7 (Box Score)

Seven individuals contributed a hit for the Royals, while eight of their runs scored came from their four home runs. Seth Nelson played the game of his life with a 2-for-4 performance that included two home runs, four RBI, three runs scored, and one walk. That consisted of a three-run home run in the fifth inning that gave Bethel the lead for good at 5-2.

Chris Lavin and Sam Abbas each went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and one run scored. 

Oran Hinkle was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. All over the stat sheet was Drew Girtz, who finished with four stolen bases, a 2-for-4 outing at the plate, three runs scored, and two walks. Coming off the bench with a 2-for-2 showing was Rowan Dodge, who entered the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. 

Bethel accumulated 13 hits, and drew 11 walks.

Mark Anderson was stellar on the pitching rubber over his 6.0 innings of work. He surrendered three hits, three runs, three walks, and notched 10 strikeouts before Alex Call, Brandon Witter, and Tanner Nordrum came in relief. The trio collectively allowed six hits, four runs, and tallied four strikeouts over the final two innings.

The Corsairs had nine hits. Brett Baker carried UMass Dartmouth on his shoulders with a 2-for-4 performance that included one double, one home run, and one hit by pitch.

The Royals will face Salve Regina in Orlando, Florida tomorrow, Thursday, March 19 at 10 a.m. (ET).

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Bethel improved to 10-0 with a 5-2 victory over Coe, and a 7-0 win over UW-Stout at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida.

Lauryn Douglas/Michaella Sullivan cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while Claire Keller/Zadie Walvatne followed with a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. Elisabeth Langhus/Payton Douglas prevailed with a 7-5 decision at No. 3 doubles.

Lauryn Douglas took care of business 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Michaella Sullivan was victorious 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles while Keller won by that same score at No. 3 singles. Rounding out the Bethel wins was Malia McKinnon 7-5, 7-5 at No. 5 singles.

Langhus dropped a tight 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3) score at No. 4 singles, while Zadie Walvatne also fell a close match by a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4) margin at No. 6 singles.

Bethel 7, UW-Stout 0 (Box Score)

Bethel ran away in doubles thanks to a 6-1 win from Payton Douglas/Lauryn Douglas at No. 1, a 6-2 victory from Elisabeth Langhus/Bryna Eigenfeld at No. 2, and a 6-1 decision from Addie Carlson/Zadie Walvatne at No. 3.

Michaella Sullivan notched a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 1 singles, while Emily Eisma followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6. Next was Bryna Eigenfeld's 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5, followed by Keller's 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 2. Payton Douglas followed through with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4. McKinnon iced the 7-0 victory with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at No. 3.

The Royals face Hamilton at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida on Thursday, March 19 at 7:30 a.m. (ET).

SOFTBALL

The Royals dropped a pair of games to Southwestern (DH) 7-6 and 7-2. The losses send BU's overall record to 3-9.

Southwestern 7, Bethel 6 (Game One Box Score)

The Royals outhit the Pirates 11-8 in the contest, but only mustered one extra base in the contest. That came from Sidney Bartels, who finished 3-for-4 with one double and two runs scored. Also going 3-for-4 was Camryn Thurow, who scored one run and notched one RBI. Rounding out the multi-hit Royals was Lucie Voight, who was 2-for-3. Julia Helget drew two walks. 

Four-of-eight Southwestern hits were for extra bases, which included home runs from Mattie Wilkie and Sophia Ytuarte. Ytuarte also allowed 11 hits, six runs, and notched three strikeouts in a complete-game pitching win for Southwestern. 

Dominique Walicke and Mary Hajduk combined to allow eight hits, seven runs, three walks, and notch two strikeouts in the circle for Bethel.

Southwestern 7, Bethel 2 (Game Two Box Score)

Brianna Tix registered eight strikeouts and allowed nine hits, seven runs (five earned), and just one walk in a complete-game effort that consisted of 6.0 innings.

The Royals provided her with eight hits, which included Abby Otterness's 1-for-4 outing that included a solo home run in the third inning. Mandalyn Franks was 3-for-4 with one double, while Camryn Thurow was 2-for-4.

Mazlyn Heyer and Jaden Wheeler combined to allow eight hits, two runs, three walks, and tally three strikeouts on the rubber for the Pirates.

The Royals will face No. 3 Texas Lutheran (DH) in Seguin, Texas tomorrow, Thursday, March 19 at 5 p.m.
