MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Bethel University Men's Hockey team rode a balanced offensive attack and strong netminding to a 3–1 victory over Concordia in MIAC play Friday night.
Bethel struck early in the first period, taking control of the game with an efficient offensive push. Senior Tyler Braccini got the Royals on the board at 6:32 of the first, converting a play assisted by Joe Westlund and Nate McIsaac to put Bethel up 1–0. Later in the period, sophomore Joe Kelly doubled the lead for Bethel at 18:57, cashing in on a sequence created by Shane Lavelle and Max Hamstad to make it 2–0 after one.
Concordia responded early in the second period with a goal to cut the deficit to one, but Bethel steadied itself and never looked back. Midway through the second, senior Tyler Kostelecky restored the Royals' two-goal cushion with a well-executed finish, assisted by Lavelle and Ethan Hull, giving Bethel a 3–1 advantage.
The third period saw Bethel maintain control, with the Royals' defense and goaltending limiting opportunities and preserving the lead. Bethel outshot Concordia and generated consistent pressure, closing out a decisive conference victory.
Austin Ryman was sharp in goal for Bethel, stopping 28 shots while keeping the Cobbers at bay throughout the contest. His timely saves in momentum-shifting moments helped keep Bethel in command.
Offensively, the Royals received contributions across the lineup, with Braccini, Kelly, and Kostelecky each finding the back of the net as Bethel improved its conference record with the win.
With a complete effort at both ends of the ice, Bethel added another strong performance towards the end of the MIAC season and looks to carry momentum into tomorrow to finish the series at Concordia Moorhead for a 2pm puck drop.
