Bethel Breaks Through in Third to Take 3-1 Victory at Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. – Bethel women's ice hockey earned a 3-1 road win over University of Wisconsin-Superior Friday night in Superior, Wisconsin. Bethel improved its record to 5-4-2 with the victory, while Superior fell to 1-13-1.

After two scoreless periods, the Royals came alive in the third period with a trio of goals. Freshman Sophie Martin opened the scoring early in the period at 1:53 with assists from junior Malia McKinnon and freshman Olivia Martin. Just over three minutes later, McKinnon added a goal of her own with help from graduate student Kallie Tibbetts (Abrahamson). Freshman Rylen Kissell then struck on the power play at 10:26, set up by Olivia Martin and freshman Amelia McQuay, to give Bethel a 3-0 lead.

UW-Superior broke up the shutout bid at 15:19 with a goal from Maya Anderson assisted by Ashton Parnell, but Bethel held on down the stretch for the 3-1 victory.

Bethel outshot the Yellowjackets 33-26 on the night and saw strong goaltending from Ashley Gustafson (Hess), who made 25 saves to secure the win between the pipes. Superior's goaltender recorded 30 saves in the contest.

The Royals' balanced third-period scoring was the difference as they snapped a brief skid and built momentum heading deeper into their schedule. The Royals finish up the two-game series at home against University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday at 3pm before returning to MIAC play.
