BLAINE, Minn. — The Bethel Royals collected a hard-fought 3–1 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets on Saturday afternoon at the Bethel University Arena. With the win, Bethel improves its season mark to 6-4-2, while UW-Superior falls to 1-14-1.
After a scoreless opening period, the Royals broke through late in the second frame. Malia McKinnon opened the scoring at 18:30 of the second period, converting on a power-play opportunity off assists from Olivia Martin and Afton Hulke to give Bethel a 1–0 lead heading into the final period.
Bethel continued its momentum in the third period, adding two quick goals. Kallie Abrahamson Tibbetts extended the Royals' lead just 2:59 into the third, with a helper from Evie Sellner. Shortly after, Maddi O'Connor struck at 4:47, assisted by Siri Olson and Amelia McQuay, pushing the advantage to 3–0. UW-Superior's Emma Kligora ended Bethel's shutout bid late in the period, finding the back of the net at 18:43 to make it 3–1.
In goal, Ashley Gustafson (Hess) turned in a strong performance between the pipes, stopping 28 of 29 shots to secure the win for the Royals. Gustafson and the Bethel defense kept Superior's offense in check for most of the game, helping Bethel control play through all three periods.
The Royals will look to build on this victory as they continue MIAC play on Friday at home at 7pm against Augsburg University.
