BLAINE, Minn — The Bethel University Men's Tockey team battled St. Olaf College to a 1–1 draw through overtime before earning the shootout victory, capped by Jack Brown's game-ending goal, Friday night at Bethel University Arena.
St. Olaf opened the scoring early in the first period, striking at the 5:43 mark to take a 1–0 lead. Bethel settled in defensively after the early goal and began to generate sustained pressure as the period progressed, keeping the deficit at one heading into the first intermission.
The Royals broke through in the second period when Tyler Braccini tied the game at 16:14, finishing a play set up by Spencer Kring and Joseph Yoon. The goal sparked momentum for Bethel, which controlled stretches of play through the remainder of the frame.
Neither team found the net in the third period despite quality chances on both sides, sending the game into overtime. The extra session featured end-to-end action, but strong goal tending kept the score level and pushed the contest into a shootout.
After multiple rounds in the shootout, Brown delivered the decisive goal, sealing the shootout win for the Royals and sending the Bethel bench into celebration.
In goal, Marco Duronio was solid for Bethel, making 28 saves through regulation and overtime, while St. Olaf's Matthew Malin turned aside 42 shots to keep the game tight.
Bethel will look to carry the momentum from the shootout victory into its next non-conference contest against UW-River Falls at home on Friday, January 9th for a 7pm puck drop.
