Cobbers Hang On For Win Over Royals

ARDEN HILLS, MINN.—The Bethel University men's basketball team dropped a 79-74 decision to Concordia (Minn.) at the Robertson Center Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

The Royals fall to 7-10, 4-5 MIAC, while the Cobbers improve to 13-5, 5-4 MIAC.

Bethel either led or tied for the opening 3:35 of the contest. The Cobbers never trailed again after Jacob Cook's layup that made the score 8-6 with 16:25 on the first-half clock. That didn't stop the Royals from tying the game at 33-33 and 36-36 in the final moment's of the first half, and coming back from a 12-point 65-53 deficit with 11:00 left in the second half.  That comeback consisted of a 19-10 run that ended with Blake Schmitz's layup that got Bethel within one point of Concordia (Minn.) at 75-74 with 00:21 left. However, Cook converted all four of free throw attempts in the game's final seconds to ice a 79-74 win for the Cobbers.

Both teams combined to shoot .531 (60-of-113) in the contest. Bethel had the slight .537 (29-of-54) - .525 (31-of-59) advantage in field goal percentage. Nick Burke had 17 points, seven rebounds, and six assists for the Royals, while Jack Charbonneau followed with 13 points. Jay Neubert had 11 points and four assists. Also with 11 points off the bench was Adam Mattes.

The Cobbers were led by Cook's 25 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Jackson Loge followed with 23 points, four blocks, eight boards, and two assists.

The Royals will travel to Macalester on Wednesday, January 28. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
