ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — The Bethel University baseball team slugged its way to a doubleheader sweep of Northwestern at Hargis Park Wednesday afternoon. Taking game one 4-0, on a
Xavier Lortie grand slam to right in the fourth inning. In game two the Royals broke things open with a pair of five run innings. Bethel batted around in the fifth, opening up an 11-2 lead on a
Zach Thompson single to left, and going on to win 14-2.
Game one:
With the bases loaded and no one out in the second,
Xavier Lortie provided a jolt by smacking a grand slam to straight away right to open up a 4-0 lead.
Jackson Hunter took the hill for the Royals, turning in seven innings of shutout baseball, allowing three hits and striking out five Eagles batters. Hunter earned the win to bring his record to 4-3 on the year.
Lortie's third homer of the year proved the difference as the Royals took game one, 4-0.
Game two:
The Eagles plated the game's first runs in game two on a two RBI double off the left field wall in the top of the first.

Xavier Lortie RBI single to right in the second cut the lead in half, before
Joe Meurer tied the game at two in the fourth with a solo bomb to left, his third of the season.
Chris Lavin gave the Royals the lead with a sharp line drive RBI double down the left field line, Bethel added on from there plating four more runs to open up a 6-2 lead.
Bethel broke it wide open in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on five hits and batting around.
Zach Thompson capped the inning with a sharp single to left center to make it 11-2.
In the seventh
Sam Abbas belted a towering two-run shot to left, his first of the year, to make it a 13-2 game. As the Royals took game two 14-2 earning the doubleheader sweep.
