MINNEAPOLIS — The Bethel University baseball team salvaged a split Tuesday afternoon against Augsburg. The Royals dropped game one of the doubleheader 9-4, before taking game two 3-0. Holding a slim one run lead in the ninth
Joe Meurer singled up the middle driving in two runs to give the Royals a three run advantage.
The Royals are now 26-9 on the year and 15-3 in conference play.
Game one:
The Auggies plated one in the first and one in the third, before taking a 4-0 lead on a two RBI double to left.
Bethel battled back in the sixth after the first two batters reached base,
Hayden Sperbeck lined a double down the left field line to get the Royals on the board.
Carson Christiansen brought the Royals back within one on a two RBI double to right, and
Andrew Cardenas tied it a four with a sacrifice fly to center.
Augsburg plated four in the bottom of the sixth to take an 8-4 lead that ended up being the final.
Game two:
The backend of the doubleheader remained scoreless through three frames, before
Zach Thompson doubled to leadoff the fourth. Later coming around to score on a wild pitch to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.
Nick Carlson took the hill for Bethel in game two, tossing 6.2 scoreless innings, giving up just four hits to go along with five strikeouts, earning his first win of the year.
The Royals added on in the ninth, after a
Chris Lavin double put two runners in scoring position.
Joe Meurer rolled a ground ball single up the middle bringing home both runners to open up a 3-0 lead.
Aidan Nelson pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in relief punching out three Auggie batters to earn his second save of the season, as the Royals took game two 3-0.
