Bethel Men's Tennis Takes Commanding 7–2 Victory Over St. Olaf

Arden Hills, Minn. — April 12, 2025
The Bethel University men's tennis team extended their impressive MIAC run with a 7–2 home victory over St. Olaf at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex. With the win, the Royals improved to 12–5 overall and 5–1 in conference play.

Bethel came out firing in doubles action, sweeping all three matches to seize early momentum. The #1 duo of Carter and Watson Sheard battled through a tight tiebreak to earn a clutch 10–8 win. At #2, Dylan Magistad and Zack Chaffey turned in a strong performance, winning 8–5, while Robert Seaton and Zach Bengtson were dominant in an 8–4 victory at the #3 spot.

In singles play, Bethel continued to roll. Carter Sheard and Dylan Magistad delivered straight-set wins at #1 and #2, giving the Royals a 5–0 overall lead and clinching the match early. Ryan Reid added another point for Bethel with a solid 6–3, 6–1 win at #5, and Zach Bengtson capped off the Royals' scoring with a 6–0, 6–3 win at #6.
St. Olaf picked up three wins in tight three-setters at the #3 and #4 singles positions. Lou Smith edged Zack Chaffey in a super tiebreaker, and Madden Vanderwerf narrowly defeated Watson Sheard 10–8 in the third set.

With the victory, Bethel remains a contender in the MIAC standings as postseason play approaches. They will face Hamline on Tuesday at 4pm in Arden Hills.
