Royals Earn Doubleheader Split With Falcons at US Bank Stadium

MINNEAPOLIS — The Bethel University baseball team earned a doubleheader split Sunday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium against the Wisconsin-River Falls. The Royals dropped the first game by a score of 3-2, before taking the second game by a final score of 6-0.

The Falcons grabbed a 3-0 lead early in game one, before a Zach Thompson solo home run to left field got the Royals on the board. Bethel added another in the seventh but couldn't complete the comeback falling 3-2.

A two-run bomb to right by Joe Meurer in the fourth inning put the Royals on top 2-0 in game two. Bethel tacked on three more runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to take game two 6-0.

Game one:
River Falls got on the board first pushing across two runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Falcons added another in the third on an RBI single to center field to make it a 3-0 ballgame.

Zach Thompson got the Royals on the board in the bottom of sixth, blasting a solo shot to straight away left field making it a 3-1 game.

A pair of walks to lead off the bottom seventh brought the winning run to the plate for the Royals. Matt Friesen reached on a throwing error allowing one run to score, but the Royals couldn't bring in the tying run, falling 3-2.

Game two:
Mark Anderson took the mound for the Royals in game two tossing 5.0 innings, allowing zero runs and striking out five to earn his second win of the year.

In the top of the fourth, Joe Meurer got the Royals on the board first with a two-run bomb to the opposite field making it 2-0.

A pair of RBI singles from Jordan Krupke and Xavier Lortie extended the Bethel lead to 4-0 in the fifth. Meurer reached on error driving in another run to make it a five run advantage.

Meurer drove in his fourth run of the game in the seventh with an RBI two-bagger in the right centerfield gap to make it 6-0.

Cavan Banks tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen with three strikeouts as the Royals took game two, 6-0.

Up next:
The Royals now head to Duluth where they will open up conference play with a doubleheader against St.Scholastica on Saturday March 29. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
