DULUTH, Minn. — After dropping the first game of the afternoon 6-5, the Bethel University baseball team took game two 7-3 to salvage a split with St.Scholastica. Mark Anderson led the way for the Royals in game two tossing six shutout innings to earn his third win of the year.
The Saints struck first in game one with a two run homer in the bottom of the first, adding on from there to take a 6-1 lead heading into the seventh. The Royals rallied in their final turn at the plate, pushing across three runs in the seventh on a Zach Thompson RBI single and Xavier Lortie 3 RBI double. It wasn't enough as the Royals came up short 6-5.
Game two was scoreless until the top of the seventh, when the Royals' lineup broke through plating five runs on three hits. Michael Meadows came out of the bullpen to close it out pitching 1.1 scoreless innings as the Royals took game two 7-3.
Game one:
St.Scholastica took a 2-0 lead on a two-run bomb in the bottom of the first. The Royals answered in the second on a Jordan Krupke RBI single to make it a 2-1 game.
The Saints added on scoring one in the third and three more in the sixth to open up a 6-1 lead.
Zach Thompson drove in Oran Hinkle on an RBI single to left to start a four run rally, capped off Xavier Lortie 3 RBI double down the right field line. The Royals came up just short however, dropping game one, 6-5.
Game two:
Mark Anderson took the hill in game two for the Royals, going six innings, allowing just two hits, no earned runs and striking out three to improve to 3-0 on the year.
The game remained scoreless through six, but the Royals lineup managed to strike first in the seventh. Plating the game's first run on a Issac Call bases loaded walk. A pair of Krupke and Hinkle RBI singles made it a 4-0 ballgame.
Hinkle capped the seventh with a RBI two-bagger in the right center gap to make it a 6-0 Bethel advantage.
St.Scholastica scored three in the eighth, but Michael Meadows pitched 1.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen striking out three to preserve a three run lead as the Royals took game two, 7-3.
