BLAINE, Minn. – Multi-goal efforts from
Braeden Bartoo and
Tyler Braccini carried the Bethel University men's hockey team to a 6-3 win over Saint Mary's. The Royals tallied five of their six goals within an eight-minute stretch in the second period.
The win improves the Royals to 11-7-2 overall and 7-3-1 in the MIAC. BU jumps into second place currently in the conference with 21 points, they sit five points behind Gustavus who won in a shootout at Saint John's Friday evening.
Saint Mary's went up 2-0 just over seven minutes into the second. The response from the Royals made the second period a complete opposite of the scoreless first.
Bartoo rattled off both of his goals within one minute and 51 seconds of each other. His first came with 9:01 left in the second. He then lit up the lamp on the power play, putting in a rebound shot from the right circle after a shot from both
Spencer Kring and
Joe Westlund were saved.
Braccini put the Royals ahead for good as his stick redirected
Tyler Kostelecky's shot right under the crossbar. It wasn't long after that
Jake Herter went right through the five-hole of the Cardinals netminder.
Kostelecky capped out a three-point night giving BU the 5-2 advantage heading into the second intermission with his goal at the 16:52 mark.
Saint Mary's got one back 3:59 into the period, but Braccini got it back for the Royals with under five minutes to go for his team-leading 14th goal of the season.
