FARGO, Minn. – The Bethel University men's tennis team got off to a 2-0 start in MIAC play following a 7-2 win over Concordia Sunday afternoon in Fargo.
The Royals improved to 4-2 on the year while winning their seventh straight over Concordia.
Bethel led 2-1 after doubles play with Carther Sheard and
Watson Sheard winning 8-6 at No. 1 and
Robert Seaton and
Zach Bengtson winning 8-3 at No. 3.
Bethel won five of the six singles matches, two of which went to a third-set tiebreaker.
Dylan Magistad at No. 2 made a strong comeback after dropping the first set. He closed it out as close as you could in the third winning 5-7, 7-5, 11-9.
Zach Chaffey at No. 3 also dropped his opening set before bouncing back to win 4-6, 6-4, 10-4.
Carter Sheard (No. 1) and
Ryan Reid (No. 6) each took their opening sets in a tiebreaker before pulling away in the second set.
Watson Sheard at No. 4 singles won his fifth straight match 6-4, 6-2.
