Men’s Tennis Opens up Season with Sweep of Central

ROCHESTER, Minn. – For the second straight season the Bethel University men's tennis team opened up its season with a sweep of Central (Iowa). The Royals defeated the Dutch for the sixth consecutive time in a season-opener, doing so by a 7-0 score. Bethel has now won 12 straight season openers.

A note for fans that this season the NCAA announced a new scoring format pilot for Division III teams in non-conference matches. There will be seven team points and the team that wins two of the three doubles matches receives one dual match point. Each singles match is worth one point.

In addition, doubles matches will be a 6-game set with a 7-point tiebreak at 6-all. Singles will be a best-of-three

The Royals took all three doubles matches earning the lone doubles point. They made a clean sweep in singles play by not dropping a set.

Robert Seaton, at No. 4 singles, spotlighted the day, winning both sets in a tiebreaker by scores of 7-6 (2) and 7-6 (3). Dylan Magistad and Brett Eliason both won their matches having only dropped one game.
