BLAINE, Minn. – With his seventh goal of the year, junior forward
Jack Brown gave the Bethel University men's hockey team a 5-4 win over MIAC-leading Gustavus Adolphus in overtime Saturday evening at Bethel University Arena.
With 1:10 left in the 3-on-3 overtime, Brown went top shelf earning BU the extra point in the MIAC standings where they sit third with 18 points. The Royals improved to 10-7-2 on the year making it the fourth consecutive season with 10 or more wins, something that hadn't been done in over a decade.
Bethel was clinging to a 4-3 lead after a power play goal by
Braeden Bartoo with 55 seconds left in regulation. The Gusties though found a way to even it up with an extra attacker and 17 seconds left in the third.
It was tied 1-1 after the opening period with
Tyler Braccini getting his 12th goal of the season. GAC tallied the lone goal of the second while BU had what was the game's only power play up to the second intermission.
Logan Anderson tied it at 2-2 just three minutes into the third before GAC took the lead back a little over five minutes later.
Shane Lavelle found the next equalizer with his fifth of the year after
Caydon Meyer controlled the puck off a Gustavus turnover.
Bethel outshot the Gusties by a 35-27 margin and only took two penalties that didn't result in power plays.
