Royals Sweep St. Kate’s on Senior Night, Secure Home Playoff Match

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Bethel University volleyball team closed out its regular season in style Friday night, sweeping St. Catherine University (25–18, 25–20, 25–18) inside a packed and energetic Robertson Center Gym. The win not only capped off a memorable Senior Night but also secured the Royals a home playoff match in next week's MIAC Quarterfinals — a rematch once again against the Wildcats.

Bethel (14–10, 7–4 MIAC) was sharp on both sides of the ball, hitting .289 as a team while holding St. Kate's to a .160 clip. Peyton Howie led the attack with 19 kills on a .368 hitting percentage and added an ace and a block for 20.0 total points. Hannah Penke turned in a steady two-way performance with 11 kills, 12 digs, and two aces, while Sara Scherber added eight kills and two blocks to round out a balanced offensive front.

Sophia Rubio directed the Royals' rhythm with 36 assists, eight digs, and two block assists, while Grace Therrien and Lauren Hetfeld anchored the defense with 12 and 10 digs, respectively. Chiara Houser also made her mark at the net with three key blocks, helping Bethel control the tempo late in each set.

The evening was highlighted by a heartfelt celebration of Bethel's senior class — Eleanor Pelzel, Sophie Jacques, and Olivia Johnson — along with student coach Kate Hildenbrand. The group was honored before the match for their commitment, leadership, and lasting impact on the program both on and off the court. Their presence has helped define the Royals' culture of perseverance, teamwork, and joy throughout their collegiate careers.

With Friday's win, the Royals close the regular season on a high note and now turn their focus to the postseason. Bethel will host St. Catherine again on Tuesday at 7 p.m. inside Robertson Center Gym, with a spot in the MIAC semifinals on the line.
