ST. PAUL, Minn. — Bethel women's hockey held a 2–1 advantage after a strong second period, but St. Catherine scored four times in the final frame to hand the Royals a 5–2 setback on Saturday afternoon at Drake Arena.
St. Catherine struck first at 11:22 of the first. Bethel answered in the second with goals from junior forward Malia McKinnon on the power play at 6:22 (assisted by Sophie Martin, freshman forward, and Rylen Kissell, freshman forward), and senior defense Julia Helget at 14:11 off assists from freshman forward Amelia McQuay and senior forward Maddi O'Connor.
In the third, St. Catherine flipped the momentum with a goal from Rhiannon Ashworth 31 seconds in, followed 13 seconds later by Sara Cooney's game-winner. The Wildcats then added insurance from Ana Myers at 2:26 and Samantha Bogen on the power play at 10:12.
Bethel outshot St. Catherine 28–24. In goal, junior goaltender Lexi Holman made 19 saves over 58:57 of action; St. Catherine's netminder turned aside 26.
With the result, Bethel falls to 2–2–0 (0–2–0 MIAC) as league play continues next weekend.
