ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Bethel University men's soccer fell 4-2 to Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday afternoon at Ona Orth Athletic Complex. The Royals took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but four second-half goals by the visitors proved too much to overcome. Bethel moves to 7-2-2 overall and 3-2-0 in MIAC play.
Bethel opened the scoring in the 36th minute when senior forward Jordan Ross converted a penalty kick, marking his team-leading eighth goal of the season. The Royals maintained the lead through the first 45 minutes, holding the Gusties to just three shots in the first half.
Gustavus responded with a flurry of goals in the second half, scoring twice in the opening 15 minutes after the break and adding two more late in the match to take a 4-1 lead.
Bethel added a second goal in the 90th minute as junior Carter Sheard found the back of the net for his fifth of the season, assisted by Roy Kyle.
The Royals held a narrow edge in total shots (11-10) and corner kicks (8-6). Five different Bethel players were shown yellow cards in a physical contest that featured 10 total fouls.
