NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Bethel University women's basketball team improved to 4-0 in conference play behind a decisive 77-48 win over St. Olaf College Saturday afternoon. Four Royals tallied double digit points, going 27-for-47 from the field including 52% from beyond the arc.
Emily Erickson led the way with 18 points, shooting 6-for-7 from the field in the win.
Colette Duininck nailed a three pointer five minutes into the opening quarter to put the Royals ahead 10-2.
Elly Schmitz grabbed a defensive board and nailed a shot from beyond the arc as well to open up a 13 point advantage.
Three minutes into the second quarter
Emily Erickson came away with a steal that turned into a
Elly Schmitz jumper to put the Royals up 19-11. Later in the quarter
Emily Erickson drove the lane and got to the rim for a layup to put Bethel up 29-18.
Cally Peterson closed out the half by knocking one down from three to put the Royals up 33-20 at the break.
Bethel came out firing to start the second half, opening a 14 point lead on a
Colette Duininck three pointer.
Rosalie Penke nailed a three pointer of her own to open a 53-33 lead and
Alaina Bonacquista hit a jumper to give Bethel a 22-point lead at the end of three.
Emily Erickson hit from three to give the Royals a 62-37 lead. Midway through the fourth Erickson drew a foul knocking down both attempts from the charity stripe to open up a 30 point lead — the Royals largest of the night.
Elly Schmitz capped the Royals win by driving the lane for a layup with 1:33 to play to go ahead 77-48.
