Royals Ring in the New Year with Shutout win Over Trine

BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel women's hockey team opened the 2025 portion of its schedule, earning a 2-0 victory over the Trine after holding a one-goal lead for nearly 56 minutes. The non-conference win moves the Royals to a record of 5-4-1 as they head into the second game of the series.

How It Happened:
 • Emily Wiltse lit the lamp just two minutes into the first period after she recovered a loose puck in the Royals' defensive end, skated the length of the ice, and buried the puck in the top corner.
• The Royals fought to maintain the narrow lead through the rest of the first period, through the second, and until late in the third. BU goalkeeper Anna Hanson collected 16 saves to keep the Thunder off of the board. That was large in part to the Bethel defense which kept the Thunder outside the zone for a majority of the contest.
• Finally, the Royals extended their lead at 17:28 as Abbie DeLong knocked the puck into the Thunder net rebounding on her own shot just outside the crease. The two-goal margin was too much for the Thunder to respond to in the last three minutes of the game, and the Royals skated away to victory.
What's Next:
The Royals return back to the Blaine Super Rink tomorrow afternoon for another home match-up against the Trine University Thunder. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m.
