Three Hit Double Figures as Royals Roll Past Auggies, 80-52

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – With three players in double figures, the Bethel University women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in an 80-52 defeat of Augsburg Wednesday evening inside the Robertson Center.  
 
Anna Garfield led all scorers with 18 points, adding four rebounds and three assists. Elly Schmitz added 17 points, including nine at the charity stripe, and six rebounds. Emily Erickson also chipped in 17 points coming off the bench for the Royals.
 
BU shot 42.6 percent from the field while holding the Auggies to 38.9 percent. Each team knocked down five triples. The Royals were 17-of-21 (81.0 percent) from the charity stripe. Defensively Bethel caused 27 turnovers and converted that into 29 points.
 
Back-to-back threes from Garfield late in the first capped out a 10-0 run for the Royals. A pair of makes from the Auggies in the final 72 seconds gave BU a 20-13 lead after one.
 
Augsburg cut the BU lead to three with 6:01 to go in the second before a 12-5 run by BU over the next four minutes and 17 seconds got the gap back to 10 for Bethel. The Royals eventually went into the break up 38-30.
 
Through the first three minutes of the fourth, BU held the Auggies to a three-pointer and a free throw, opening up its advantage to 48-34.  The Royals closed the quarter on a 10-3 run to take a 22-point lead into the fourth.
 
Cally Peterson's fast-break layup with 2:39 left in the game gave the Royals their largest lead of the game at 78-48.

The Royals take their 15-3 overall record and perfect 11-0 conference mark on the road traveling to Saint Mary's on Saturday, Feb. 1 for a 1 p.m. start.
