MINNEAPOLIS – The Bethel University women's hockey team opened the weekend series to No. 8th-ranked Augsburg with a 2-0 loss Friday evening.
Augsburg's goal 9:21 into the first sent BU into the locker room down 1-0 despite being outshot 16-6.
The Royals surrendered a second goal late in the second with under three minutes to go as the Auggies capitalized on one of their six power plays. Bethel had three power-play chances in the second, with the final carrying over into the third for 12 seconds, but couldn't capitalize on its four shots on frame.
The two squads skated to a scoreless third with Bethel holding the edge, 13-5, in shots on frame. The Royals also killed off a pair of penalties.
Anna Hanson made 32 stops while BU won the faceoff battle 32-26 and
Brynn Swenson winning 14 of those.
