ST.PAUL, Minn — A six run seventh in game two, started by a Matthew Carlsen single and capped off with a Ty Koehn two RBI single to center, propelled the Royals to a come from behind victory and sweep of Macalester.
The Royals started hot in game 1 plating runs in each of the first five innings, including a seven spot in the fifth, taking game 1 by a score of 18-5. Down 7-3 in the sixth Bethel rallied for six in the seventh to pull out a 9-8 victory and a sweep of the Scots. Improving to 10-9 overall and 3-3 in the MIAC.
Game one Bethel 18, Macalester 5:
The Royals scored early and often in game one, in the second a Zach Thompson double deep to the left center gap plated Chris Cannon, igniting a four run Royals rally and an early 5-0 lead.
Bethel hung another four spot on the board in the fourth, capped off with a two RBI single up the middle off the bat of Noah Wenberg.
Carson Christensen started the scoring in the fifth with a double to the right center gap bringing home Nolan Jurgenson from second. With two on and two out Matthew Carlsen hit his third home run of the season, a three-run bomb over the right center field wall giving the Royals a 17-4 lead.
Matthew Carlsen plated his fifth RBI of the game with a single in the eighth, Carlsen went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and two extra base hits including his third roundtripper of the season in game one.
Game two Royals 9, Macalester 8:
The Scots grabbed an early lead game two with a three run first inning. The Royals answered back in the second with a Chris Lavin double down the left field line driving in Zach Thompson cutting the deficit to one.
Down 7-3 in the seventh a Matthew Carlsen single to left sparked a six run rally for the Royals, taking the lead on a two RBI single to center courtesy of Ty Koehn. Chris Lavin reached first on a Scots throwing error to bring in Thompson and extending the Bethel lead to 9-7.
Jordan Axeberg tossed 3.0 innings out of the bullpen, allowing three hits, one earned run and earning his third win of the season.
Michael Meadows closed it out in the ninth, preserving the Royals one run lead and earning his first save of the season in the process.
