HILLS, Minn –
John Solfest led the way on the mound for the Royals in their Saturday afternoon of doubleheader sweep of Saint Mary's. Solfest got the ball in game one pitching a seven inning complete game shutout, allowing three hits, no earned runs and matching a career high with nine strikeouts earning his fourth win of the season. The Royals took game one by a score of 3-0.
Game two saw the Royals jump out to an early 5-0 lead in the fourth, before a five run sixth from Saint Mary's tied it up. A Cardinal throwing error in the eighth allowed
Ty Koehn to score the go ahead run from second, winning by a 6-5 final. Bethel improves to 18-13 overall and 11-7 in the MIAC extending their winning streak to five games.
Game one Bethel 3, Saint Mary's 0:
John Solfest got the start on the hill in game one tossing seven shutout innings, giving up three hits, issuing one walk and nine punchouts. The win improves his record to 4-4 on the year.
Matthew Carlsen gave the Royals their first lead of the ballgame on a solo home run to straight away right field. Giving Bethel a 1-0 lead on his team-leading sixth roundtripper of the season.
The Royals tacked on another in the fourth on a
Brody Schneider sacrifice fly to left center. In the fifth
Carson Christiansen hooked a double down the right field line plating
Zach Thompson from third for 3-0 Royal lead that ended up being the final.
Game two Bethel 6, Saint Mary's 5:
Jackson Hunter got the start for the Royals in game two and after working out of a bases loaded jam in the first tossed 5.o innings allowing no earned runs, two hits, three walks and six strikeouts. Earning a no decision.
The Royals got on the board first once again with a
Carson Christiansen sac fly to left bringing home the game's first run. A throwing error by the Cardinals catcher on a dropped third strike allowed
Xavier Lortie to reach first and
Jordan Krupke to score, extending the Bethel lead to 2-0.
In the second
Jordan Krupke hit a sac fly deep to center field plating Nolan Jugensen, later in the inning
Matthew Carlsen scored on a wild pitch making it 4-0.
Carson Christiansen hit a sac fly to left, his second of the game, plating Nolan Jurgensen and extending the Bethel lead to 5-0 through four.
Saint Marys struck for five runs in the fifth tying the game at five.
Ryan Parker came in from the Royals bullpen tossing 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits, one walk and no earned runs earning his third win of the season in the process.
The Royals pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the eighth, when a throwing error by the Cardinal second baseman made its way into the dugout, allowing Nolan Jurgensen to reach and
Ty Koehn to score the go ahead run making it 6-5.
