EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Bethel University men's hockey team skated to a scoreless tie at Wisconsin-Eau Claire Saturday evening. Junior netminder
Marco Duronio had a heck of a season debut, collecting 23 saves, three of which came during the five-minute 3-on-3 overtime.
Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the "just for fun" shootout, which went four rounds, 2-1. UWEC connected on their first and third attempt while
Tyler Braccini had BU's lone connection in the third round.
Bethel held the edge in the shots on goal department by a 28-23 margin. The Royals outshot the Blugolds in the second (11-6) and the third (8-5).
All three of BU's power plays came in the second period where they totaled four shots. UWEC went on the power play once in the first and once in second, which only lasted 16 seconds after some time of 4-on-4 hockey.
Still in search of its first win, Bethel heads back to the National Sports Center and Rink 5 for its home opener on Friday, Nov. 15 hosting Wisconsin-Stout at 7 p.m.
