ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — The Bethel University volleyball team fell to Gustavus Adolphus College in three sets on Saturday night. The Royals lost by scores of 25-18, 27-25 and 25-19. Dropping them to 8-2 in MIAC play and 18-8 overall.
Set one:
Hannah Penke opened the first set with a kill to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. Down 5-3
Grace Solberg brought Bethel to within one with a kill. A 4-1 Bethel run capped off with a
Grace Therrien ace cut the deficit to 10-8 later in the set. The Royals continued to rally, cutting the Gustie lead to 13-12 on a
Hannah Penke kill, but a 6-1 Gustavus run opened a 19-13 lead. With the Royals going onto drop the opening set 25-18.
Set two:

Grace Solberg kill cut the Royals deficit to one early in the second set, before a 5-1 finished off with a
Hannah Penke kill gave Bethel a 9-8 lead. A pair of
Grace Solberg kills followed by a Gustie attack error gave the Royals a 16-13 lead mid-way through the second set. Later in the set a
Hannah Penke ace opened up a 22-20 Bethel advantage, with a
Grace Solberg kill moving it to set point. But a 5-1 run gave Gustavus the set 27-25.
Set three:
Brenna Stark gave the Royals an early 3-2 lead in the third set with a kill.
Grace Solberg then tied the score at four with a kill. A 9-1 Gustie run gave them a 13-5 lead, with a pair of Gustie errors and a
Grace Therrien ace cutting it to 13-8. A 6-1 run capped off with a pair of
Grace Solberg kills made it a 18-16 game.
Peyton Howie came up with a late kill to make it a 23-19 game, but the Gustie closed it out winning by a score of 25-19. Taking the match 3-0.
Grace Solberg collected 18 kills on the night, good for a .371 hitting percentage. With
Peyton Howie racking up 9 kills and a .348 hitting percentage.
Brenna Stark tallied 2 kills and 35 assists in the match.
