ST. PAUL, Minn. – With four unanswered goals to finish it out, the Bethel University men's hockey team opened up MIAC play with a 5-2 win at Hamline Friday evening. The victory extends Bethel's winning streak to three as they improve to 3-3-1 overall.
Hamline took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission after scoring with under three minutes left in the opening period. The shots on goal rang an even 9-9 in the opening 20 minutes while BU couldn't convert on its only power play of the night.
The Royals eventually got their skates under them, and
Liam Hennessy evened it 3:31 into the second. Six minutes later, Hamline took the lead back at the 9:11 mark.
Junior transfer
Shane Lavelle notched his first goal as a Royal evening it up again with just under seven minutes left in the second.
Jeremiah Konkel gave Bethel the lead for good, scoring with just over six minutes left in the game. Three minutes later
Joe Westlund added an insurance goal before
Braeden Bartoo put in the empty netter.
Bethel was 3-for-3 on the penalty kill while net minder
Austin Ryman collected 28 saves.
