ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Knocking down 12 treys and shooting 35.3 percent from behind the arc, the Bethel University men's basketball team earned an 84-73 road victory at Northwestern Tuesday evening.

Payton Thomsen led all scorers with 29 points while matching a career-high six 3-pointers and shooting 50 percent behind the arc.
Adam Mattes poured in a career-high 22 points while
Nick Burke notched a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Bethel shot 46.8 percent for the game and held UNW to 41.1 percent, including a 28.6 percent mark in the second half. The Royals took care of the ball, limiting itself to 13 turnovers and held a slight edge on the boards, 33-31.

After three ties and 12 lead changes in the second half, Burke knocked down his second three of the game on a dish from Thomsen with 6:40 left. It gave BU a 68-65 lead that they would never lose.

Bethel closed the game on a 9-0 run as UNW went without a bucket for the final four minutes of the game and only notched a pair of free throws with 3:37 left.

The Royals held the Eagles scoreless the final 2:04 of the first half to take a 44-43 lead into the break. BU shot 51.6 percent for the half while draining seven threes. UNW was 52.6 percent from the floor and 2-of-7 from three.

The Eagles' largest lead in the first was six while Bethel's was five. The first 20 minutes saw seven lead changes and eight ties. `

Bethel, now 1-1 on the year, returns to the Robertson Center on Saturday, Nov. 16 for a 4 p.m. tipoff with Buena Vista.
