Two second-half goals led to the Bethel men's soccer team's defeat by the Macalester College Scots, 4-2. The loss moves the Royals to a 6-5-0 record overall and 2-2 within the MIAC.
How It Happened:
- James Oberholtzer led the Royals down the field to their first scoring play as he outmaneuvered a defender and passed the ball off to Bereket Bereketab, who lofted a perfect cross over to Nathan Hunt. Hunt leapt up to knock the ball in for a forceful header goal at 11:00 to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.
- The Scots answered back with a goal of their own just two minutes later, but the Royals struck again. This time, though, Oberhotlzer was the one who dealt a cross to Bereketab, who crashed the net for his own header goal at 14:21. 2-0, Royals.
- But, the Scots found the back of the net just 10 seconds later to tie things up, and the teams headed into halftime at a score of 2-2.
- The second half saw Macalester pull away to take the lead for the first time in 47th minute and widen the margin with a fourth goal in the 78th minute to secure their win and the Royals' loss.
