A late goal forced the Bethel women's soccer team to settle for a tie against the Macalester College Scots, 1-1. The Scots' goal, which came in the 86th minute of the match, countered the Royals' goal from earlier in the half and ended the game in a draw. The tie moves the Royals to a 5-3-2 record on the season.
How It Happened:
- The Royals dominated the first half offensively, posting 12 shots to the Scots' 2, but couldn't seem to find the back of the net. Still, their momentum carried through into the second half, setting them up for success.
- At 54:08, Malia Beilby knocked in a bouncing ball from just inside the 6-yard-box after it deflected off of a Macalester defender. A well-placed strike on the ball sent it past the charging Scot goalkeeper and into the bottom left corner of the net.
- The Royals clung to the lead for the next 30 minutes, but a free kick opportunity gave the Scots the right positioning and chance to get the ball past BU goalkeeper Kate Green and into the Royal net to tie the game.
- Four minutes wasn't enough time for either team to find the game-winner, and the score remained 1-1 until the final buzzer.
What's Next:
The Royals will make the short trip to Hamline University this Saturday, Oct. 5, for a matchup against another MIAC team, the Pipers. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
