BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel men's hockey team snapped their five-game winning streak after losing to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons in their second non-conference WIAC matchup of the weekend, 3-1. With the loss, the Royals move to a season record of 10-3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• After 17 minutes of back-and-forth play in the first period, the Falcons clinched the lead with three minutes left, finding the back of the Royals' net on a breakaway.
• The Royals narrowly edged out the Falcons in second period shots, 8-7, but were unable to score an equalizing goal. The teams entered the third period with UWRF leading by one.
• With less than five minutes remaining in the game, the Falcons widened their lead, scoring on a backhanded rebound from close range and bringing the score to 2-0, UWRF.
• With two minutes left, the Royals opted to pull goaltender
Travis Allen off of the ice and bring on a sixth skater. A minor penalty assessed to the Falcons, which was the game's only penalty, immediately after gave the Royals a 6-on-4 leg up for the final minutes, but an empty-netter and shorthanded goal for UWRF at 18:50 lifted them to a 3-0 lead.
• The Royals avoided a shutout when
Jeremiah Konkel nabbed a power-play goal at 19:25, but the seconds ticked away too quickly for BU to make a full comeback.
