BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel women's hockey team skated to a 2-0 loss with the tough No. 13th-ranked Saint Mary's University Cardinals squad. The defeat brings the team to a MIAC record of 4-6-1 and 10-7-1 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Cardinals found a lead in the first period as the MIAC's leading goal scorer, Reese Heitzman, added to her tally just eight minutes in, flinging the puck over the left shoulder of BU goaltender
Anna Hanson. Saint Mary's outshot Bethel 19-3 in the first period.
• The Royals fought back hard in the second period, holding the Cardinals to only 12 shots and creating seven opportunities on goal themselves.
• Yet when the Royals pulled Hanson from the net in the final minutes of the game to give themselves an extra skater, the Cardinals nabbed an empty-netter goal with less than 60 seconds left and sealed the final score at 2-0, Cardinals.
• Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.
